Cadillac’s Proposed Exciting New Coupe

Automaker Cadillac has a rich tradition of building exciting, highly regarded sedans as well as coupes. However, changes made to its line up over the past decade have resulted in a fleet of vehicles that now consists exclusively of sedans, crossovers, and sport utility vehicles. Gone are the days of the super size Eldorado and the Coupe de Ville, vehicles that long stood for Cadillac quality and excess. Today, plans are underway to bring in a coupe to compete against European rivals Mercedes, Audi, and BMW. Please read on for more information about the proposed CTS derived coupe.

The proposed CTS coupe being planned by Cadillac will not be an Eldorado nor will it be an updated version of the Coupe de Ville. As a large midsize two door model, the CTS coupe will be larger than its European competitors, but vastly smaller than preceding Cadillac coupes.

A 2008 Calendar Year Introduction

Slated for an overhaul for the 2009 model year, the CTS sedan will be the basis for the new coupe, thus virtually all of the parts will be shared between the two cars with the majority of the differences showing up in the roof pillars. Cash strapped General Motors wants to produce the car badly, but they don’t want to go overboard with development costs. Thus, the coupe and sedan would share an overwhelming majority of the same components.

Downsides to the New Coupe

The CTS coupe does have at least two downsides to it. First of all, the luxury coupe market isn’t that large and it has been shrinking. Second of all, the CTS will be larger than its European competitors more along the lines of the biggest cars from Mercedes and BMW. This could cause confusion for buyers, especially if the CTS is aimed at smaller cars but is sized with the larger models.

Upsides to the New Coupe

On the positive side, the CTS coupe throws open an important and profitable area of the car market to Cadillac. As part of its ongoing appeal toward harnessing younger buyers, the CTS will do for Cadillac in 2008 and beyond what the Escalade did earlier in the decade: lower the average age of Cadillac owners. The younger the buyer is, the better the chance that Cadillac will have them as customers for the long haul.

GM’s Money Woes Could Scuttle the Project

Of course, GM’s financial woes could cast doubt on the new model even though the CTS sedan is a go. Plus, it isn’t certain yet just how many coupes Cadillac would have to sell in order to turn a profit. Yet, if the car is built it could further signal GM’s commitment to building cars that buyers really want, a complaint that some consumers have voiced as reasons why they have left the general behind.

The smart money says the CTS coupe will be given the green light. Cadillac needs this car and consumers want a luxury coupe to light up their world. Who better than Cadillac?

James Bond’s Top Used Cars

One of the great benefits of buying a used car rather than a new one is being able to get some classic luxury vehicles for a fraction of their original price. While a brand new Mercedes-Benz or Audi might be outside the price range of many buyers, lots of people are able to afford used BMWs every year.

James Bond has always been at the forefront of defining luxury and style, with the naming of a new Bond car typically enjoying just as much attention as the naming of a new Bond girl. Thanks to the reduced prices of the used car market, fans of the British superspy can now own some of his famous cars without paying the huge prices that they commanded when they were first introduced.

Cars.com looked at the top 10 vehicles to ever serve as Bond cars, and many of them may fit in the price range of modern car buyers.

Two of the Pierce Brosnan-era vehicles made the list, and both were BMWs. Bond used the 1997 BMW 750iL in “Tomorrow Never Dies,” where he drove it on a high-speed chase through a multilevel parking garage. Although the spy’s 750iL came equipped with rockets, tear gas, spike strips and magnetic flash grenades, drivers can likely find a used BMW with a few less options at an auto auction or used car lot.

Bond got a little more stylish for 1999, where he switched to a BMW Z8 for “The World is Not Enough.” This two-seater V8 coupe might move almost as fast as a missile, but most models unfortunately don’t come with the ground to air warheads that Bond had in his vehicle.

Some of the more classic cars on the list will likely be a bit rarer and tough to find. But if drivers find a 1975 Lotus Espirit from “The Spy Who Loved Me” or a 1961 Sunbeam Alpine from “Dr. No” they should try to snatch it up. The true classic, however, is the 1964 Aston Martin DB5 from “Goldfinger,” which took the top spot on the list.

These vehicles might have been among the most expensive in the world back in their heyday, but their prices have likely fallen quite a bit in the past few years. Drivers looking for a used BMW should keep their eyes peeled for a 750iL, Z8 or even a Z3, which was used in “Goldeneye.” The top spy cars of yesteryear can become the bargains of today.

Male vs. Female Car Preferences

Registration records of new 2005 and 2006 models cars from January 2006 to the present reveal much about American men’s and women’s preferences for cars.

Overall, men tend to love luxurious, high performance cars, preferably with a horsepower of 367 or more (for women, the top five models had an average 172 hp). On the other hand, women prefer cars that are affordable, practical and safe, and with a dash of design flair, as evidenced by the Eclipse Spyder convertible, which had the highest percentage of female registrants of any car on the market. It was followed by Toyota Motor’s RAV4 sport utility vehicle (SUV).Another Eclipse model, the hardtop Eclipse coupe, ranked as fourth highest in registration, marking it out as a true women’s car.

The survey prompted one observer to comment that the 2003 movie “2 Fast 2 Furious” prominently featured the Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder but that it was portrayed as a man’s car belonging to the angry, muscular ex-convict played by Tyrese Gibson. In the movie, the Gibson character drove a purple Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder.

It was an interesting point. Registration records do, in fact, indicate that men tend to buy feminine cars but women rarely purchase male-oriented, testosterone-fueled sports and luxury cars. For instance, the Eclipse Spyder, which is the most popular car among women, was also the car of choice among 34.2% of male registrants.

On the other hand, when it came to the most popular male vehicles in the market, registration figures showed that women don’t seem to be all that interested. For instance, not a single woman registered Honda Motor’s Acura NSX sports car this year while only 1.8% of registrants of DaimlerChrysler’s Mercedes-Benz S55 AMG performance sedan have been women.

As far as particular brands are concerned, the idea that you can sell a woman’s car to a man, but you can’t sell a man’s car to a woman also holds true .The brand that has had the highest percentage of female registrants so far this year, General Motors’ Pontiac subsidiary, still sells cars to a buying populace that is 47% male. Meanwhile, DaimlerChrysler’s Dodge subsidiary, which has the highest percentage of male registrants — and only 14.8% of people who have registered a Dodge this year have been women.

David Beckham Cruising in a Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe

The lifestyle of the rich and the famous is forever cast in a spotlight that the common and less privileged lot are likely to keep an eye on, up to the point of invading privacy. Common people like to see what the rich and the famous do, eat, wear, and drive. However, it would not totally be referred to as intrusion if one commoner, doing his regular daily routine happens to see a celebrity pass by or drive by. For example, David Beckham was seen taking his sons for a drive in his Rolls Royce luxury coupe in Beverly Hills.

The Phantom Drophead possesses an aura which commands absolute awe and fascination. The distinct bulk and sleekness that have characterized most, if not all, Rolls Royce merchandise is carried over in this coupe. Luxury cars have always been a symbol of power and affluence, and what better way to flaunt one’s material excesses than in having a Rolls Royce. Being one of the most revered carmaker in the world, Rolls Royce have become a status symbol which only the wealthy populous can afford to purchase.

In January 7, 2007 , the Phantom Drophead Coupe debuted at the 2007 North American International Show in Detroit . The platform of this luxury coupe was based on the 2003 Rolls Royce Phantom. The styling was majorly obtained from the 2004 100EX concept car. This four-seater coupe has suicide doors which opens rearward. A front engine rear-wheel drive, it is equipped with a 6749cc V12 engine with a six-speed automatic transmission.

The overall design of this luxury coupe was derived from the classic J-calss racing yachts that were popular during the 1930s. The J-class yachts were renowned for their speed, possessing an amazing combination of versatility, ability, and efficiency. The same qualities this car possesses, which was thus designed to bear semblance from which inspiration it was created. The use of wood and steel trimmings boldly fuses the maritime theme.

The interior was made to look like an avant-garde version of a traditional clubroom of English gentlemen. Also, the maritime theme is not lost within the luxury car with wood veneering that covers the interior walls. Moreover, since making a convertible coupe was not entirely the intention, the Phantom Overhead Coupe has a soft-top roof, rather than a metal one. Moreover, the use of canvas brings about a nostalgic romantic air to the whole package as it is very reminiscent of decades past with cars such as the Rolls Royce Tourer and Saloon.

These top of the line luxury cars are real treasures. But although the possession of such treasures tends to be limited only to the wealthy lot, the experience of driving or riding in one is not. With the flourishing car rental industry, any one man or woman is given the opportunity to take a ride in such classic luxury cars. There are many car rentals in Las Vegas , Beverly Hills , Maryland , Malibu, and practically anywhere, that offer a wide array of vintage cars from which one can choose to rent for a day, for a week, or for as long as needed. It’s just a matter of budget and the rest is history.
